Yemeni President Abdrabbuh Mansour Hadi on Monday accused Iran of supporting the Houthi militias in his country with money and arms, stressing that Houthis reject all chances for peace and give no attention to the interests of Yemenis. Hadi made the remarks during separate meetings held at his residence in Riyadh on Monday with US and German ambassadors in the context of the efforts put by the legitimate government with the international community to revive the negotiating process with the insurgents. According to the Saba news agency, President Hadi met with German Ambassador to Yemen Hansjorg Haber to discuss current developments and opportunities to achieve peace. Haber praised Germany’s role in supporting Yemen along with the EU and the international community to achieve peace based on the Gulf initiative and the outcomes of the national dialogue and relevant UN resolutions, especially resolution 2216. The German Diplomat renewed his countrys support to Yemen and its legitimate authority, hoping for enhancing chances for peace with the new UN envoy to Yemen. He confirmed his countrys support to any effort serving peace and stability in Yemen. Hadi, for his part, pointed out during the meeting with the German ambassador to the “intransigence of the coupists and their rejection of chances to achieve peace in the past and their indifference to the interests of the Yemeni people and the international resolutions.” In his meeting with US ambassador to Yemen Matthew Tueller, Hadi stressed the importance of the US role in support of Yemen and its constitutional legitimacy in various situations and conditions to restore the state against which Houthi- Iranian militias rebelled. Hadi praised the United States and the international community’s condemnation of the insurgents, whom Iran supports with funds and weapons to continue their destructive insurgency and destabilize the region. During his meeting with Tueller, Hadi renewed his accusations against Iran for interfering in the affairs of his country through supplying Houthi militias with weapons. He pointed to the Iranian smuggling of experts and weapons to the militia as evident from the vessels seized while transporting arms to the militias. According to observers, Western diplomacy is leading intensive consultations with Yemeni legitimate government in an effort to facilitate the mission of the new UN Envoy to Yemen Martin Griffiths to develop a political settlement between the coup and the legitimate government leading to a long-term peace agreement.
