Saudi Arabia has urged the United Nations Security Council to condemn the latest Houthi attack on a Saudi oil tanker off Yemens port city of Hodeidah. In a letter sent to UN chief Antonio Guterres and the president of the Security Council, Saudi Arabia’s permanent mission to the UN called upon the 15-member body “to condemn the latest Houthi terrorist attack.” It also urged it “to hold the Houthi militias and their patron Iran accountable for their innumerable crimes against international law.” It reiterated the need for placing Hodeidah port under international supervision to prevent the smuggling of weapons to the Houthis in violation of the arms embargo established under Security Council Resolution 2216. Furthermore, the mission called on the UN to take the necessary measures to implement Resolutions 2216 and 2231, stressing that the Arab Coalition will continue to secure international navigation in Bab al-Mandab and the Red Sea. The Iran-backed Houthis attacked the Saudi tanker off Hodeidah port on Tuesday. The tanker continued on its route “after the rapid intervention of a coalition naval vessel", the Coalition said.
