Sheikh Mohamed Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces, arrived Tuesday in Egypt for talks with President Abdul Fattah al-Sisi. The Egyptian president welcomed his guest and his accompanying delegation at Al-Ittihadiya Palace in Cairo. Both men discussed cooperation in various political, development, economic, and investment domains. Sisi emphasized Egypt’s keenness to continue developing the framework of joint cooperation with the UAE in various fields. The Egyptian president last met with Sheikh Mohamed in February in the Emirati capital of Abu Dhabi. Their meeting in Cairo on Tuesday comes less than a week before Arab leaders will meet for their annual summit in Saudi Arabia. During talks with Sisi, Sheikh Mohamed stressed that the rapid developments taking place in the Arab region call for continued coordination and cooperation among the Arab countries to reach unified stances and policies to address the challenges facing them. The arrival of Abu Dhabi’s Crown Prince in Egypt coincided with the launch of joint naval drills, dubbed "Khalifa-III", between Egypt and the UAEs air and maritime troops in the Red Sea on Tuesday. The drills will last for several days with the participation of naval and air forces from both sides in the Egyptian territorial waters. An Egyptian military spokesperson said the training comes as part of efforts to strengthen the skills of forces in both Egypt and the UAE. It includes training in protecting sea routes, combat, searching suspected vessels and facing potential maritime threats. The training also comes within the framework of keenness of the Egyptian Armed Forces to exchange expertise with the forces of friendly countries. Both the UAE and Egypt are part of an Arab quartet that cut off diplomatic and economic ties with Qatar last June over its support and funding of terrorism.
