Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammed Javad Zarif said on Sunday that Tehran was ready to release American citizens held in Iran if US President Donald Trump shows a change of attitude from the Nuclear Program. In an interview with CBS’s Face the Nation moderator Margaret Brennan aired on Sunday, Zarif said Iran is “ready” to restart its nuclear program if the Trump administration leaves the 2015 nuclear agreement and reinstates sanctions. Asked whether the Iranians were open to an exchange, he replied, “It is a possibility, certainly from a humanitarian perspective, but it requires a change in attitude.” Zarif said that if the US pulls out of the nuclear deal, Iran would then have many options. “But if the benefits of the deal for Iran start to diminish then there is no reason for Iran to remain in the deal. Because its not acceptable for us to have a one sided agreement,” he said. Separately, French President Emmanuel Macron begins Monday a state visit to Washington. A Summit between Macron and his US counterpart would mainly discuss Iran’s nuclear deal. The French President already said there is no “plan B” if the nuclear accord is scrapped. In an interview broadcast on the eve of his three-day state visit, Macron told Fox News: “I don’t have any plan B for nuclear – against Iran.” Trump is threatening to tear up the 2015 agreement, aimed at curbing Tehran’s nuclear effort. “So that’s a question we will discuss, but that’s why I just want to say, on nuclear – let’s present this framework because it’s better than the sort of North Korean-type of situation,” Macron added.
