The Executive Office of the Council of Arab Ministers of Communication and Information Technology will hold its ninth regular session on Tuesday at the headquarters of the General Secretariat of the Arab League under the chairmanship of Saudi Arabia. The Cairo meeting will be chaired by Saudi Minister of Culture and Information Awwad al-Awwad, and attended by Arab League Assistant Secretary-General for Media Affairs Ambassador Haifa Abu Ghazaleh. It is aimed at preparing for the 49th session of the Council of Arab Ministers of Communication and Information Technology. Currently, the Executive Office includes Egypt, Saudi Arabia, Jordan, Tunisia, Sudan, Somalia, Iraq and the United Arab Emirates, in addition to the participation of federations, organizations and media-linked bodies. General Supervisor of External Information at Saudi Arabias Ministry of Culture and Information Khalid Abdul Qader al-Ghamdi stated that the challenges facing the Arab nation require more efforts to advance joint Arab media work for the benefit of the nation. He added that the draft agenda includes many important items, indicating to what was stated in the final communiqué of the Arab summit hosted recently by Saudi Arabia, which stressed the importance of the Palestinian cause and the right of the Palestinian people to establish their independent state with East Jerusalem as its capital. The summit was renamed “the Jerusalem Summit.” Ghamdi also discussed the international media plan to counter the unilateral US decision to recognize Jerusalem as the capital of Israel, in implementation of the resolutions of the recent Arab summit in the city of Dhahran. The General supervisor stressed the coordination of Arab media efforts to implement initiatives and programs aimed at highlighting the Palestinian cause and the historical rights of the Palestinian people. Ghamdi concluded by referring to the role of Arab media in achieving sustainable development in the region, and promoting the Arab Leagues adoption of the sustainable development strategy (2030).
