The Saudi government condemned on Tuesday the US administration’s relocation of its embassy in Israel to Jerusalem, saying that this move represents “major bias” against the Palestinian people’s historic rights in the holy city, reported the Saudi Press Agency. Meeting in Jeddah, the cabinet session said Monday’s move was a “major setback” to efforts to push forward the peace process. The meeting at the al-Salam Palace was chaired by Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman bin Abdulaziz. The cabinet reiterated that it had previously warned of the dangerous repercussions of the relocation, describing it as an “unjustified provocation” of Muslim sentiments all over the world. The US inaugurated its embassy in Jerusalem on Monday in a move that was widely condemned by the international community. The move was also accompanied by mass Palestinian protests along the Gaza border. Israeli troops killed some 55 people in the unrest, wounding over 2,000 in actions that also drew global condemnation. The Saudi cabinet strongly denounced the targeting of unarmed Palestinians by the Israeli forces, demanding that the international community assume its responsibilities towards halting the violence against the Palestinians. The Kingdom declared that it stands by the Palestinian cause and the people’s right to regain their legitimate rights according to international resolutions and the 2002 Arab peace initiative. In addition, Saudi Arabia reiterated its support for Washington’s withdrawal from the 2015 Iran nuclear deal and President Donald Trump’s reimposing of economic sanctions on the regime in Tehran. It said that the relax in sanctions, in wake of the signing of the deal, was abused by Iran to continue its destabilizing actions in the region, especially in developing its ballistic missiles program and supporting terrorist groups. The cabinet hoped that the international community would take a “firm and united” stand towards Iran and its backing of terror organizations, especially Lebanon’s “Hezbollah”, Yemen’s Houthis and the Syrian regime of Bashar Assad that has committed the most atrocious of crimes against its people. Moreover, the cabinet strongly condemned the recent terrorist attacks in Iraq, Afghanistan, Somalia, Indonesia and France. It stressed that the Kingdom firmly stands against any acts of terrorism and extremism. King Salman also briefed the ministers on the details of the letter he received over the weekend from Emir of Kuwait Sheikh Sabah al-Ahmed al-Jaber al-Sabah. He also congratulated the Saudi people and Muslim world on the advent of the holy fasting month of Ramadan, which will begin on Wednesday or Thursday.
