A captive in a Houthi-run prison died under torture although the militias falsified the cause of death, claiming he had cholera, medical and legal sources in Sanaa said. General Peoples Congress Party sources in Sanaa revealed Monday that the deceased, Mohammed Ghorab, was from Ibb province and that he died in the Political Security prison that is run by Houthi militias. They said the Houthi group asked the relatives of the young man to pick up his body, and sign a report stating he died because of cholera, in an attempt by the militias to avoid mentioning the cause of death. The latest fatality comes days after Sadiq al-Haidari suffered a brain hemorrhage after he was tortured to death at a militia detention center in Dhamar province. According to Yemeni human rights data, at least 150 captives in Houthi-run prisons have been killed under torture since 2016. In the context of hearing the testimony of survivors from militia prisons, the Association of Abductees Mothers in Marib organized Sunday a meeting with three victims - Yahya al-Haij, Maath al-Shamiri and Abdulhadi al-Shami. They revealed horrific forms of physical and mental torment practiced by militia members against detainees, including burning with fire, ripping out nails and putting them in cells with snakes. The Association, which is a Yemeni human rights organization, has called on all international human rights bodies to stand up to the cases of abductees and put pressure on the Houthi militias to release hundreds of their captives. On the other hand, the field team of the Human Rights Information and Training Center (HRITC), a Taiz-based human rights organization, monitored 155 violations against civilians in Taiz governorate last April. The team documented the death of 35 civilians, including two children and two women, by Houthi gunfire and shelling.
