Omani Foreign Minister Yusuf bin Alawi bin Abdullah held discussions on Sunday with his Iranian counterpart Mohammed Javad Zarif in Salalah city on the southern coast of Oman. The two sides discussed during the meeting joint cooperation between their countries in various fields and means of strengthening it, reported the Omani news agency. They also exchanged views on the latest regional and international issues of common interest. Irans foreign minister warned last month that failure to save the nuclear deal was "extremely dangerous" for Tehran. However, the Iranian government confirmed that it will not continue to abide by the agreement in case it affected its economic interests, according to AFP. AFP also quoted Iranian Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei as demanding Europe to provide economic guarantees in exchange for his countrys continued commitment to the agreement. US President Donald Trump announced in May his country’s withdrawal from the 2015 Iran nuclear deal. Iranian and European officials have been scrambling to salvage the deal by holding talks aimed at averting economic sanctions that Washington said it would re-impose against Tehran in wake of its pullout from the pact.
