JEDDAH: A campaign urging officials to investigate reports of animal torture at a pet hotel in Riyadh has gone viral on the social media platform Twitter. Images were posted showing apparent neglect and poor hygiene standards at the hotel where it was reported that some cats have starved to death. Several months ago, a Saudi court ordered the imprisonment of a young man, fining him around $50,000, after he posted video clips of himself attacking cats with a hunting rifle. Saudi Arabia has introduced strict sanctions against those who mistreat animals with punishments range between imprisonment and fines ranging between $15,000 and $100,000.
