The Libyan National Army (LNA) escalated on Wednesday its rhetoric against Qatar and Turkey, accusing them of transforming Libya into an open ground for terrorist groups. LNA spokesman Ahmed al-Mismari stressed during a press conference in Benghazi that the army has the bank account numbers that the National Accord Government central bank governor had used to dispense funds to terrorists. Some of the funds were derived from oil revenues, he revealed. One of the beneficiaries from these actions was Wissam bin Hamid, the former commander of extremist Benghazi militias, who collected 4 million dinars, charged Mismari. He also said that there was evidence, documents and recordings that prove that a plot was “conceived to transform Libya into a launchpad for terrorists to head to neighboring countries after they completed their defeat of the military forces.” Moreover, he accused Qatar and Turkey of violating United Nations Security Council resolutions on Libya “because they turned the country into a military training barracks for terror organizations.” “May surprises may be revealed later on about the city of Derna after its liberation,” warned Mismari. One of these surprises concerns Ali al-Sallabi, the godfather of the Libyan Muslim Brotherhood, who is affiliated to Qatar, added Mismari. Mismari also presented at the press conference a video of Ibrahim al-Jadran, the militia leader who attempted to seize Libya’s oil crescent before the LNA recaptured it. In the video, he is shown negotiating with former Libyan Prime Minister Ali Zeidan over 264 million dinars. Informed sources, meanwhile, told Asharq Al-Awsat that Britain refused to place Jadhran on the Security Council sanctions list. The list includes figures and entities that are accused of hindering peace efforts in the North African country. In Tripoli, PM Fayez al-Sarraj’s National Accord Government discussed the latest developments in the oil crescent region and declared force majeure on several oil ports.
