Five people were injured during the annual Running of the bulls in Pamplona, Spain, medical officials said on Saturday. At least one was gored by a bull’s horns, the Red Cross revealed. Red Cross spokesman Jose Aldaba stated ambulances were taking the wounded to a nearby hospital just minutes after the traditional festival in the northern Spanish city began early Saturday. Rain before the race left the already narrow cobbled-streets more slippery than usual, and many other runners could be seen being trampled, while corralling the massive animals into Pamplonas bullring, completing the 850-meter (930-yard) course in just over two minutes. Saturdays bulls weighed between 550-630 kilos (1,100 to 1,400 pounds) each. Around 2,000 people, most of them dressed in white and wearing red neck scarves, attend the sprint, running alongside six bulls and six bullocks on a narrow route that weaves through central Pamplona. Saturdays are statistically the most dangerous day of the week-long San Fermin festival, leaving around seven people hurt each year.
