RIYADH: Saudi Arabian volunteer group Rafd has launched a reading initiative in public areas called “Library Everywhere” across the Kingdom to promote reading. The group has organized a number of libraries in different Saudi cities, including Makkah, Jeddah, Hail, Jazan and Riyadh. The initiative is also working on organizing smaller libraries in the governorate of Al-Kharj. The volunteer team said they aim their reading initiative would continue everywhere to encourage people who don’t read books and get them to develop this habit. Rafd said their initiative enjoyed the support of several publishing houses and writers, through supplying their team with all the books and publications they need. They say their project’s aim is to increase the percentage of readers in the Kingdom is in line with Saudi Arabia’s Vision2030. Rafd is a volunteer group established online in 2015, before it began working in the field as well as online in Jeddah, then Makkah, Riyadh, Dammam and Hail. It includes 100 members from young Saudi men and women.
