DUBAI: Dutch-Egyptian-Moroccan model Imaan Hammam took to Instagram to show her support for the Knot On My Planet campaign, which is seeking to protect elephants from poaching and trafficking. The model, who recently walked the runway for Versace, posted a snap of herself holding a limited-edition Elephant Mini Bag by Spanish luxury fashion brand LOEWE. The bag was launched in collaboration with Knot On My Planet, and its global ambassador Doutzen Kroes, and is exclusively available to buy on loewe.com. Made from tan calfskin, LOEWE´s bag is adorned with handcrafted beadwork by Samburu Trust women from northern Kenya, who live among the elephants. LOEWE is donating all the bag’s sales proceeds to the Elephant Crisis Fund, which aims to stop poaching, prevent trafficking and end the demand for ivory. “Happy to support (the) #KnotOnMyPlanet campaign with my new @LOEWE elephant bag made in collaboration with women from the Samburu Workshop,” Hammam posted on Instagram, alongside a snap in which she is wearing an ivy green sweatshirt along with the quirky, colorful bag. Hammam was born in Amsterdam and was discovered at the city’s Central Station when she was 13-years-old and is now a world-renowned advertising, editorial and runway model. In an interview with Vogue Arabia in February, the 21-year-old model shared how her Egyptian-Moroccan heritage still inspires her and how she is proud to be the “modern poster girl for the diversity movement. “Fashion is all about having a personality — and nothing is as inspiring as the power of being you,” she told the magazine for an issue in which she graced the cover alongside legendary Somali-American supermodel Iman. Hammam wasn’t the only model to show her support for the animal welfare campaign. Brazilian model and actress Gisele posted a shot on Instagram with the caption: “How cute is the elephant bag with beadwork made by Samburu women in Kenya? I am happy to support @Doutzen in this important mission to protect the elephants. 100 percent of (the) proceeds will be donated to the Elephant Crisis Fund, with the goal to end the slaughter of elephants for their ivory.” British model Rosie Huntington-Whiteley captioned her photograph: “So happy to be supporting the #KnotOnMyPlanet campaign with my new @LOEWE elephant bag made in collaboration with women from the Samburu Workshop.” American models Karlie Kloss and Emily Ratajkowski also took to social media to show their support, posting sultry snaps of themselves holding the special handbags.
