US President Donald Trump is scheduled to receive Emir of Kuwait Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah on Wednesday September 5, the White House announced. Emir Sabah will meet with Trump at the White House as the head of a delegation to discuss trade, investment and cooperation in security, spokesperson Sarah Huckabee Sanders said in a press release. Sanders did not provide further details of the meetings agenda, but the Kuwaiti Emir and president Trump are expected to discuss the diplomatic crisis and trade blockade against Qatar, which has been going on for over a year. She said Kuwait was leading diplomatic moves in Washington to heal the Gulf rift and push for a meeting between the parties in September, to be held at Camp David. The accuracy of this information wasn’t verified by either Kuwaiti or Gulf sources. Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Egypt and Bahrain severed their ties with Qatar in June 2017 for supporting terrorism. Sources pointed out that both the Kuwaiti and US leaders will discuss other political issues pertaining to Syria, the Palestinian-Israeli conflict, the crisis in Yemen and Iranian regional belligerence, as well as economic files related to trade, military transactions and military cooperation between the two countries. In September 2017, Emir Sabah met with Trump in Washington and discussed the regional situation, especially the Gulf crisis. In mid-January, the US president thanked the Emir for his support of Gulf unity.
