Yemen’s legitimate government accused the Iran-backed Houthi militias of bombing a relief truck in the Hodeidah province. The driver of the truck was killed in the attack. Yemen’s Higher Relief Committee (HRC) condemned the attack, which targeted a truck loaded with aid from the World Food Program (WFP) and that was headed to the Tahita district. “HRC has previously alerted to such actions by the Houthis to obstruct the safe access of relief aid to the directorates of Tahita and al-Durayhimi, in particular, and other directorates in Hodeidah, in general,” the statement said. Minister of Local Administration and HRC Chairman Abdul Raqib Fatah held the militias accountable for impeding aid efforts, bombing trucks and relief vessels in Hodeidah port and consequently compounding the humanitarian situation in the province. He called on UN Humanitarian Coordinator in Yemen Lisa Grande to condemn the criminal act, which violates all international and humanitarian laws. He urged her to notify the UN and its Security Council of all violations committed by the militias against relief work and take the proper measures to stop them. The minister also described as unacceptable Grande and UN agencies’ continued silence over these crimes. Fatah urged the international community to assume full responsibility towards the suffering of people in Hodeidah and take necessary steps to immediately halt all Houthi violations against relief efforts. Furthermore, he noted that the militias have a long record in targeting humanitarian efforts in Yemen, including the kidnapping of relief workers in Hodeidah.
