Saudi paratroopers and special security forces took part in a number of joint military drills with fellow forces participating in the Bright Star 2018 war games in Egypt. Raiding and clearing fortified positions, parachute free-falling training and shooting with live ammunition were a part of the exercise. Held at the Mohammed Najib military base in Al-Hammam area west of Alexandria, the drill was held with the participation of a host of countries. Armed forces from Saudi Arabia, the United States, Greece, Britain, Jordan, the United Arab Emirates, Italy and France took part in the exercises, along with 16 other countries that attended as observers. A number of seminars and lectures were also held for the participants. Bright Star 2018 also included training in real-time combat simulations. The drills aim at exchanging expertise, enhancing coordination between the participating armies, standardizing concepts and improving skills, as well as developing methods of operations and training on counter-terrorism and unconventional warfare. The drills are part of joint military training is aimed at improving and boosting Egypt’s relations with its neighboring and friendly countries amid the current tumultuous situation in the Middle East. The exercises have included counter-terrorism operations, dismantling IEDs, air and naval landings, diving and paramedic dispatch. Saudi paratroopers and elite security forces were assigned a number of major operational tasks, such as urban combat, counter-terrorism, combating piracy and air landing.
