The Yemeni Coalition for Monitoring Human Rights Violations briefed on Tuesday the United Nations on the rights situation in the country in wake of the coup of the Iran-backed Houthi militias, reported the Saudi Press Agency. Coalition Executive Chairperson Mutaher Al-Buthaije highlighted during a seminar in Geneva the Houthi violations committed between January and August 2018 as documented in report issued by the Coalition. The report said that 1,224 civilians were killed and 1,220 wounded during this period. They include 332 children, 129 women and 69 elderly people. The majority of the casualties were reported in the Taiz province, with 367, followed by Hodeidah with 226, Ibb with 74, Dhaleh with 62 and al-Baydha with 61. Houthi-planted mines and explosives left 182 civilians dead, including 31 children, 24 women and 11 elderly. A total of 138 civilians were wounded by mines. In addition, the Coalition documented 34 cases of extrajudicial killings and 36 cases of deaths under torture. Buthaije stressed that the Houthis had committed during the past four years numerous crimes and human rights and international law violations, such as murder, kidnappings, arbitrary arrests and child recruitment.
