Saudi Arabia renewed concerns over the suffering of Rohingya people and other minorities in Myanmar. Addressing the Human Rights Council during the interactive dialogue with the International Fact-Finding Mission on Myanmar on Tuesday, Dr. Abdulaziz Al-Wasel, Saudi Ambassador to the United Nations in Geneva, expressed the Kingdom’s concern over the report of the International Mission on grave violations of human rights and international humanitarian laws by the armed forces against the innocent Rohingya people in Rakhine state and other minorities in Shan state and other areas of northern Myanmar. He said the report of the International Mission found that the armed forces of Myanmar had burned entire villages. It recorded numerous cases of indiscriminate killings, mass rapes of women, child abuse and cases of enforced disappearance and other forms of violence, persecution, and enslavement, which the report described as genocide. Wasil said the Kingdom has recently sought to provide aid worth $50 million for Rohingya people by supporting rehabilitation programs on education and health.
