Saudi Ambassador to the United States Prince Khalid bin Salman hailed on Wednesday Saudi Arabia’s sponsoring over the weekend of the historic peace deal between Ethiopia and Eritrea. He said in a series of tweets on his official Twitter account: “Saudi Arabia, with support from the United Arab Emirates, achieved the Jeddah Peace Agreement between Ethiopia and Eritrea, which ended 20 years of war and will bring stability and security to a vital region. “A key pillar of Saudi foreign policy is peacemaking, promoting development and maintaining security,” he stressed. Saudi Arabia “has always been at the forefront of reconciliation efforts and promoting peace,” he added. “While others exploit conflicts to sow division, Saudi Arabia mediates, with successful outcomes going back decades,” he continued, while citing the Kingdom’s successful mediations with Palestinians and in Lebanon, Afghanistan and other countries “The security of the Bab al-Mandab Strait and the Horn of Africa is vital for Saudi Arabia, the region and the world,” tweeted Prince Khalid. “Around 15 percent of the world’s trade passes through this area and Saudi Arabia will keep working towards safeguarding the region from instability whether it‘s from piracy or Irans militias,” he vowed.
