Schools closed in Jeddah on Sunday as adverse weather conditions affect several western Saudi regions

Severe weather conditions were forecasted for the regions of Jeddah, Makkah, Madinah, Najran, Al-Baha, and Al-Qassim, on Saturday and throughout Sunday There is risk of flooding in some provinces in western Saudi Arabia JEDDAH: Schools will be closed in Jeddah, Rabigh and Khulais on Sunday due to the adverse weather conditions, announced the Director General of Education in Jeddah. Abdullah bin Ahmed Al-Thaqafi said the decision was taken by the Ministry of Education’s central committee, based on weather reports and in consultation with the concerned authorities, to suspend schools for that day. Severe weather conditions were forecasted for the regions of Jeddah, Makkah, Madinah, Najran, Al-Baha, and Al-Qassim, on Saturday and throughout Sunday, with risk of flooding in some provinces. Adverse weather conditions are forecasted for the regions of Najran, Al-Baha, and Makkah on Saturday. Moderate to heavy thunder and dust storms are expected to affect the Makkah region, including the areas of Rabigh, Jeddah, Thuwal, Dhahban, and Asfan between 5p.m. on Saturday and 1a.m. on Sunday. Thunder and dust storms were expected to affect the Najran region between 1p.m. and 8p.m on Saturday. Moderate to heavy thunder and dust storms were also forecasted in Al-Baha region between 12p.m. and 11p.m on Saturday. The General Authority of Meteorology and Environmental Protection warned the public to take necessary precautions during these times. Jeddah’s King Abdulaziz International Airport advised passengers to contact the airlines they are due to travel with for updates as a result of the adverse weather conditions in various areas of Saudi Arabia.
