Saudi Arabia Signs Deal with US on Combating Human Trafficking

Saudi Arabia signed on Monday a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the United States to bolster technical cooperation in combating human trafficking, reported the Saudi Press Agency. The deal was signed between Saudi Arabia’s Human Rights Commission and the Office to Monitor and Combat Trafficking in Persons in the US Department of State. Prior to the signing, President of the Saudi Human Rights Commission Dr. Bandar bin Mohammed Al-Aiban and Ambassador-at-Large John Cotton Richmond held a meeting to discuss Saudi efforts to combat human trafficking. Aiban highlighted the Kingdom’s establishment of 107 departments by the Public Prosecution to investigate trafficking cases. He praised the constructive cooperation with the US, stressing Riyadh’s keenness and continuous efforts to expand international cooperation in combating this crime. The MoU stresses that the Kingdom was moving forward in consolidating the protection and preservation of human rights, he remarked. The Human Rights Commission said that the MoU included the implementation of joint activities, programs and projects, in accordance with the Kingdoms legislation and international obligations, and in coordination between the Commission and the relevant governmental bodies. The MoU aims to strengthen national capacities by providing expertise and technical consultations in the field of combating human trafficking and developing the capabilities of the workers.
