Shares in Sound Energy PLC dropped on Monday as the company said it will abandon the TE-9 well in Morocco after it failed to find gas. The share price in the Moroccan-focused upstream gas company was down 41.3% on Monday. The company said that TE-9, the first of a three well programme in the Tendrara area, was drilled to a total depth of 2,925 meters. "Interpretation of the wireline logs has not established the presence of producible gas, and hence the well will be plugged and abandoned, and not tested," Sound Energy said. The well encountered 60 meters of dolomitized silty sandstone. However, analysis of the wireline data indicated that the interval is of low porosity and therefore poor reservoir quality, the firm explained. Furthermore, the well also encountered 630 meters of a Westphalian aged succession of fine sandstones siltstones and mudstones. "The petrophysical analysis of the wireline data indicates the interval is again of low porosity and therefore poor reservoir quality," Sound Energy added. The company will move onto TE-10, after plugging and abandoning the well. Sound Energy plc, through its subsidiaries, engages in the exploration, appraisal, and development of oil and gas assets. The company holds 47.5% interest in the Tendrara license covering an area of 9,336 square kilometers; Anoual license, which covers an area of 8,873 square kilometers; and Matarka license that covers an area of 5,223 square kilometers located in Eastern Morocco.
