Saudi-Egyptian ties: A longstanding relationship of mutual respect

Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman’s visit to Egypt reflects the depth of the relationship between the two countries and the continuity of mutual respect and cooperation. This is his second visit to Egypt in a year and a half; his first was when he was appointed crown prince in June 2017. This second visit reflects the two countries’ constant consultation and coordination regarding regional and international issues. It reflects deep bilateral ties on the official and popular levels. The two friendly countries have a long history of relations going back to 1946, when King Abdul Aziz, the founder of modern Saudi Arabia, selected Egypt as his first foreign destination. That remarkable visit reflects the importance of the two nations’ ties, and the richness and depth of their relations. Egypt was where King Abdul Aziz met with international leaders, including UK Prime Minister Winston Churchill and US President Franklin D. Roosevelt in 1946. During King Salman’s reign, we have witnessed a rapid development in all fields of cooperation between Saudi Arabia and Egypt, such as security, military investment, trade, culture and tourism. Saudi Arabia and Egypt are the largest countries in the region. Their relationship is aimed at serving their mutual interests and serving the Arab and Muslim worlds.
