A police station in Al-Khoms, which lies 100 km east of the Libyan capital, came under fire by unidentified assailants at dawn Friday. The gunmen opened fire at the station’s windows and gates before fleeing the scene of the attack. Security sources said there were no casualties in the shooting. Further, an explosive device was successfully defused jointly by The General Security Directorate and Security Postings and the Explosives Unit in the General Directorate of Diplomatic Security in western Tripoli. The Explosives Unit was contacted and alerted to a “suspicious object” in a deserted farm in Ghoat al-Shaal. The security forces cordoned off the area to safeguard citizens and the area’s residents until the device was successfully defused, a statement said. The forces said the device had been set for detonation remotely. The statement added that the forces immediately began to collect evidence and referred the case to the competent authorities. Security forces further urged the public to report to the nearest police station about any suspicious objects or movements. The two security incidents came after reports that the High Council of States (HCS) headquarters at a hotel was evacuated. But the HCS denied it.
