Yemeni Minister of Foreign Affairs Khaled al-Yamani said that there is an ongoing work to hold the first meeting of Taiz Committee in the coming days. However, Houthis still reject to abide by the agreement on Hodeidah and its port and makeup pretexts in an attempt to deceive Yemenis and the international community. Speaking about the outcome of Sweden talks to Asharq Al-Awsat newspaper through an email, he explained that the last round of peace talks resulted in a group of agreements known as Stockholm Agreements. Till this moment, the Houthi militia is evading from its responsibilities according to the Stockholm Agreements and is creating obstacles to hinder implementation. This attitude is not new, given that this group has already violated more than 70 agreements with the government, Yamani said. Taiz Meeting The minister said that the office of the UN Special Envoy Martin Griffiths intends to hold a meeting with representatives of the government and the coup, each alone, during the coming days in order to stage for the first joint meeting of the committee. What about Hodeidah? Yamani stated that the government representatives at the Redeployment Coordination Committee (RCC) are intensively working with Head of RCC General Patrick Cammaert to implement the stipulations of the Stockholm Agreement. However, Houthis keep on obstructing its mission through abstaining from attending meetings. Griffith Duration During Yemeni’s president meeting with UN Special Envoy on Jan. 8, he expressed high flexibility in supporting the special envoy and RCC. Hadi also stressed the importance of UN announcing a road-map for withdrawals and determining a timeline that doesn’t exceed the end of this month to implement the terms of Hodeidah agreement. Personnel Deployment Yamani continued that Hodeidah currently witnesses the presence of personnel that has joined General Cammaert to monitor the ceasefire. Yet, indicators affirm that Houthi leaders reject expanding the mission of RCC and threaten to escalate against the General and his team. Negotiations Framework The newspaper asked Yamani about the Yemeni government remarks on the negotiation framework, so he replied that the framework complies with the three political solution references. The government sees that any agreement should tackle the security and military aspects in Houthis withdrawal and hand out their heavy and medium arms as well as ballistic missiles to the state. Diplomatic Efforts He stressed that the Yemeni diplomacy – under the leadership of Yemeni President Abdrabbuh Mansur Hadi – exerts restless efforts to explain the risks and prospects of Houthi’s coup in Yemen and the threats of militias’ control over the region, as well as the importance of backing Yemeni efforts to restore the state based on UN resolutions, national dialogue outcomes, and the Gulf initiative.
