A German delegation, headed by Peter Ramsauer, is visiting Saudi Arabia to discuss economic, investment and trade opportunities between Riyadh and Berlin in the fields of energy, electricity, infrastructure, engineering, technology and petrochemicals. “During our visit to Riyadh and Dammam, which will last until January 24, we will discuss bilateral cooperation opportunities,” Ramsauer, who is Chairman of the Ghorfa Arab-German chamber of Commerce and Industry, told Asharq Al-Awsat. Ramsauer said the German delegation is expected to hold talks with Saudi Minister of Transport Dr. Nabil al-Amoudi and visit the Shura Council’s Saudi-German Friendship Association and the Ministry of Energy, Industry and Mining. The delegation will also meet with officials from SABIC and the Saudi Electricity Company to explore new opportunities. Representatives of German companies will get the chance to communicate with their Saudi counterparts, he added. According to Ramsauer, around 22 representatives from various industries such as healthcare, engineering, technology, energy, hospitality management, law firms and others are accompanying him. “There is a long, important and growing history of political and economic relations between Berlin in Riyadh that dates back to 60 years,” Ramsauer noted. “Therefore, bilateral relations are very strong and improving.” The volume of trade exchange between the two countries is estimated at seven billion euros, he said. He stressed that the German market in particular, and the European market in general, are an important environment for exploring opportunities and enhancing economic cooperation with Saudi Arabia in various fields. The German official backed Saudi economic measures that include localization of industries and increasing competitiveness of local products. He also stressed that the Kingdom’s Vision 2030 will create opportunities for improved cooperation between the two countries in various fields. The German and Saudi economies have great potentials that can deepen bilateral relations and form strategic partnerships, Ramsauer added.
