FaceOf: Dr. Mohammed bin Abdullah Al-Qasem, president of the Saudi Red Crescent Authority

Dr. Mohammed bin Abdullah Al-Qasem has been president of the Saudi Red Crescent Authority since his appointment in November 2016 by royal decree. He is also the head of the standing committee of International Humanitarian Law.  Recently, Al-Qasem met with the president of the Human Rights Commission, Dr. Bandar bin Mohammed Al-Aiban, in Riyadh. Al-Qassim affirmed that International Humanitarian Law seeks to enhance awareness of international humanitarian law in training or practical application in accordance with the Kingdom’s international commitments. Previously Al-Qassim worked as a consultant to a number of ministers, including the minister of communications and information technology, the minister of commerce and industry, and the minister of health. He received his bachelor’s degree in 1990 in information systems from the College of Computer and Information Science at the University of King Saud in Riyadh.  In 1994 he obtained his master’s degree in information systems from the University of Pittsburgh in the US. He also holds a Ph.D. in computer science, which he received in 1999 from the University of Keele in the UK. He also supervised the digital excellence award and the national CIT plan, and the e-training caravans at the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology.  Al-Qasem is a member of the Social Charity Fund. He was a director of the Saudi Agricultural and Livestock Investment Company between 2013 and 2016.
