The Saudi cabinet welcomed on Tuesday Washington’s designation of the Iranian Revolutionary Guards Corps (IRGC) as a terrorist organization. Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman bin Abdulaziz chaired the cabinet session that was held in the al-Yamamah Palace in Riyadh. The cabinet added that the designation was a “serious” step in counter-terrorism efforts. The American designation translates into action the Kingdom’s repeated demands on the international community to counter Iran-sponsored terrorism, it added. The international community must take a decisive stance to confront the role played by the IRGC in harming international security and peace, it continued. The cabinet also highlighted the Palestinian cause, saying the Kingdom continues to back Palestinians on political, economic and humanitarian levels. It underlined in this regard Riyadh’s transfer of $40 million to the Palestinian budget as part of its monthly allocation to the Palestinian Authority. On Yemen, the ministers condemned the Iran-backed Houthi militias’ ongoing attempts to target civilian locations through terrorist and hostile acts that are launched from Hodeidah. The attacks are carried out a time when the Saudi-led Arab coalition was committed to the Hodeidah ceasefire in line with Stockholm agreement that was reached in December 2018. The ministers then reviewed the visit paid to Baghdad last week by a senior Saudi economic delegation that culminated in the announcement by the Kingdom that it was granting $1 billion to support development projects in Iraq.
