Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defense, received in Riyadh on Tuesday a delegation of Yemeni lawmakers. The delegation included Speaker Sheikh Sultan al-Burkani and several MPs. Burkani told Asharq Al-Awsat that the delegation expressed to Prince Mohammed its gratitude to the Saudi leadership, headed by Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman bin Abdulaziz, for standing by Yemen and its people. For his part, Prince Mohammed pledged victory to the Yemeni people against the Iran-backed Houthi militias, adding that the Kingdom will always stand by them. Burkani said that Saudi Arabia and Yemen are bound by fraternal and neighborly ties and “we are proud of what the Kingdom and our brothers are presenting to us.” “We hope to soon return to Sanaa after it liberates itself of this oppressive nightmare,” he added of the Houthi-controlled capital. History will attest to the role Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates and Saudi-led Arab coalition have played in supporting Yemen, he stressed. Moreover, Burkani revealed that parliament will resume its meetings directly after the holy fasting month of Ramadan, which ends in June. Its agenda is filled with articles that serve the people’s interests and restore the authority of the state, he remarked.
