China’s Xi to Saudi Crown Prince: Kingdom’s Security Vital for Gulf Prosperity

Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman concluded on Sunday his visit to Argentina where he took part in the G20 summit. He held talks on the final day of the summit with Chinese President Xi Jinping, Russian President Vladimir Putin, Argentine President Mauricio Macri, Italian Prime Minister Giuseppe Conte and several other global leaders. Xi stressed to Prince Mohammed that the stability of Saudi Arabia is the “cornerstone of prosperity in the Gulf region.” He also voiced Beijing’s strong support for Riyadh’s mission to diversify its economy. At the conclusion of the summit, Saudi Arabia will join the G20 three-country committee, or troika, that includes Argentina, as the former summit host, Japan as the 2019 host. The Kingdom is set to host the 2020 G20 summit. The troika is aimed at coordinating efforts between previous, current and future host countries. Riyadh hailed the efforts of Buenos Aires in holding this year’s meetings, adding that it looks forward to cooperating with Tokyo for next year’s G20 in order to tackle global economic challenges and bolster growth.
