Abdallah Yahya Al-Mouallimi, Saudi ambassador to the UN, met Oliver Adam, executive coordinator of the UN Volunteers (UNV) program. Adam provided him with a thorough analysis and explanation of the mechanism and objectives of the UNV. There are more than 7,000 volunteers enrolled in the program from all over the world, including Saudi Arabia, Adam said. Al-Mouallimi called for greater cooperation between the UNV and Saudi Arabia, especially as the latter’s Vision 2030 reform plan aims to raise the number of volunteers in the Kingdom to 1 million by 2030. Al-Mouallimi also met with Peter Mullerin, director of the representative office in New York of the UN Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA). During the meeting, Mullerin thanked Saudi Arabia for its generous support for UNRWA. He reviewed the agency’s financial crisis, and its impact on the efforts and services provided to Palestinian refugees. Al-Mouallimi stressed that the Palestinian cause is a top Saudi concern, and that the Kingdom is always keen to help UN agencies serve the Palestinian people worldwide, especially regarding education and health.
