Transport Minister Nabeel Al-Amoudi on Wednesday sponsored a signing ceremony in Riyadh of operation, maintenance and cleaning contracts for roads throughout the Kingdom for the period 2019-2022. The 110 contracts “cater to the needs of each region,” he said. Worth more than SR4.3 billion ($1.15 billion), they were awarded to various Saudi companies, and are intended to promote road safety and maintenance, he added. The ministry’s undersecretary for road operation and maintenance, Tarek Al-Shami, briefed attendees on the contracts. The ministry has developed and upgraded contracts, and established performance indicators to meet the Saudi leadership’s expectations, he said. Various ministries and government bodies have supported the Transport Ministry in achieving its goals, he added. Dr. Ali Al-Ghamdi, head of the National Road Safety Center, highlighted its efforts to raise road safety and traffic awareness so as to avoid accidents.
