RIYADH: A Saudi sculptor is carving out a reputation for himself on the world stage after representing the Kingdom at a major international art exhibition. Works by Kamal Al-Mualem were one of the star attractions when they went on display at the Tetouan International Sculpture Symposium in northern Morocco. Al-Mualem, who hails from the Eastern Province, told Arab News: “I was very glad that my artwork was shortlisted for this international sculpture fest, where selected artists from various parts of the world took part.” He said it was an honor to represent the Kingdom and promote Saudi arts and culture, adding that  34 artists from 15 countries took part in the symposium including Morocco, Tunisia, Egypt, Italy, France, China, Belgium, Oman, Congo, Kuwait, Jordan, Belarus, Bahrain and Malaysia. Al-Mualem’s sculptures proved popular with visitors to the event (which started on June 15) many of whom were students who listened to explanations about his work. Earlier this year the Saudi artist, who studied fine art in Florence, Italy, took part in the International Sculpture Camp in the city of Sohar, Oman. He has also participated in various high-profile international art exhibitions, including the Silk Road International Arts Festival and Exhibition 2018 in Xi’an, China and the Changcheng and Chuanqing International Sculpture Exhibition, also in China.
