The Greek capital Athens witnessed Thursday the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding between the general authorities of civil aviation in Kuwait and Greece. From the Kuwaiti side, it was signed by DGCA’s Director of the Department of Air Transport Abdullah al-Rajhi, and from the Greek side by his counterpart Anastasios Kokkinos. Other Greek and Kuwaiti officials also attended the ceremony. Rajhi told Asharq Al-Awsat newspaper that the MoU would open skies and access points in airports whether in Greece or abroad, by which airlines can operate any number of direct or indirect flights. The deal also includes determining national airlines of both countries (Greece’s Aegean Airlines and Air Mediterranean and from the Kuwaiti side Kuwait Airways, Jazeera Airways). They can operate anytime they want after the memorandum entered into force on Thursday, he added. Rajhi revealed that other matters have been agreed on, especially sharing the joint code so that companies may operate in cooperation with others to provide flexibility and comfort to both countries’ people. He noted that they also agreed on technical and administrative cooperation regarding upgrading facilities. On the operation date, DGCA’s Director said that the technical and legal foundation has become available since signing the MoU, yet the date of operation depends on airlines and their future plans. However, he added,  that there are confirmations from Kuwait Airways concerning the priority of flights to Greece and that it will be looked into once the new airplanes are received in early July.
