JEDDAH: An investigation has been launched into the cause of a massive fire that ripped through a new high-speed train station in Jeddah, injuring five people. Makkah Governor, Prince Khalid Al-Faisal, toured the scene of the fire at the Haramain station in Sulaimaniyah district on Monday, and said a committee has been formed to investigate the incident and present the results to King Salman. “We await the results that will be submitted by the formed committees on the causes of the fire,” the governor said. “We will review (the findings) and take the necessary action.” He said the main damage occurred on the second floor and the roof of the building, however the full extent is yet to be determined. The governor said the first and ground floors of the station remain safe. Regarding the arrests of anyone who may have been responsible for the blaze, the governor said that the matter is “big and there are things that need to be verified on why and how this happened.” Prince Khalid thanked all those involved in the operation to extinguish the blaze, which started at around midday on Sunday and was brought under control in the early hours of Monday.
