RIYADH: Saudi Arabia expects revenues of SR833 billion ($222 billion) for 2020, down from SR917bn projected for 2019, the Kingdom’s finance minister said Thursday. The state budget deficit is expected to widen to SR187bn next year, from SR131bn for this year, Mohammed Al-Jadaan said as he announced the Kingdom’s pre-budget statement. Al-Jadaan said the preliminary economic results and indicators “reflect significant progress” as the Kingdom continues with the radical Vision 2030 reform program, which aims to boost economic growth while reducing reliance on the oil sector. The reforms mean GDP is estimated to grow by 0.9 percent in 2019 and reach 2.3 percent next year, according to the review. Al-Jadaan said the 2020 budget “will continue to raise the efficiency of public finance management to maintain fiscal sustainability and maximize return on expenditure.
