RIYADH: Brazil Ambassador to Saudi Arabia Marcelo Della Nina met Assistant Speaker of the Shoura Council Dr. Yahya bin Abdullah Al-Samaan on Tuesday to review the recent visit by Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro and discussed ways to make next Joint Commission Meeting (JCM) a success. Al-Samaan welcomed the Brazilian ambassador, commending the level of bilateral relations between the Kingdom and Brazil in various fields, especially in parliamentary affairs. Della Nina said the visit of the Brazilian president during the Future Investment Initiative (FII) had been successful. The envoy told Arab News: “It was an excellent meeting. We reviewed the recent visit of the president as well as the agreements signed during it to further enhance cooperation.” “We also agreed to make sure we keep working together to help to prepare for the upcoming JCM to make it successful,” said the ambassador. He said the next JCM is scheduled to be held in Riyadh in the first quarter of 2020. During the president’s visit a notable achievement was the signing of five agreements at the Saudi-Brazilian Business Forum to enhance the areas of joint cooperation. MoUs were signed between the Saudi Arabian General Investment Authority (SAGIA) and the Brazilian Trade and Investment Promotion Agency, between SAGIA and the Arab Brazilian Chamber of Commerce, between the Arab Brazilian Chamber of Commerce and Industrial Clusters, between the Saudi Fund for Development and the Brazilian Development Bank, and finally between the Brazil-Arab News Agency (ANBA) and Arab News. During the meeting at the Shoura the two sides reviewed the agreements, stressing that they are a promising beginning for both countries. They also discussed the measures taken toward the agreements, which are important in supporting trade exchange, encouraging investments in the two countries in the fields of promoting and protecting investments, avoiding double taxation, and cooperation in the peaceful uses of nuclear energy. The two sides stressed the need to remove obstacles to accelerate the implementation of what has been agreed upon between the two countries, and the role to be played by the Shoura Council and the Brazilian Parliament in this regard.
