Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan bin Abdullah stressed that the Kingdom will not hesitate in supporting the brotherly Palestinian people in reclaiming their legitimate rights through all possible means. He reiterated Saturday that the Kingdom was committed to the establishment of an independent sovereign Palestinian state according to the 1967 borders and with East Jerusalem as its capital. Prince Faisal was in Cairo where he attended the extraordinary Arab League foreign ministers meeting that was held to address President Donald Trump’s controversial Middle East peace plan. “Saudi Arabia has exerted massive and pioneering efforts to support the Palestinian people,” continued the minister. “It has stood by them at all international events to call for their rights to be restored,” he added, citing the Kingdom’s leading efforts in presenting the 2002 Arab peace initiative. The initiative noted that the Palestinian-Israeli conflict could not be resolved through the military option. The establishment of just and comprehensive peace through negotiations is the strategic choice. “Saudi Arabia supports efforts and initiatives aimed at pushing forward negotiations to reach a just and comprehensive solution to the Palestinian cause. It underscores that the success of these efforts demands that the final goal be the establishment of a fair solution that safeguards the rights of the Palestinian people in establishing their independent state with East Jerusalem as its capital,” added Prince Faisal. He reiterated Saudi Arabia’s support for the Palestinian Authority and its president, Mahdmoud Abbas, saying it will stand by the Palestinian people and their choices.
