The British military has been urged to “think the ridiculous” and create cutting edge weapons, including what one minister described as “plankton-powered rubber duck bombs”. In a radical vision of the future of warfare, James Heappey, the armed forces minister, told senior military personnel that Britain should focus on automation and new technology - saying they should be more like Netflix and less like Blockbuster. Speaking at the inaugural conference of the cross-service strategic command, he said that Special Forces would move away from “crawling through the ditch with their dagger in their teeth ready to plunge it into the heart of the enemy commander” and instead “plant malware in the heart of enemy servers,” the Times reported....
