JEDDAH: A state security court on Tuesday sentenced a Saudi national to death for passing on sensitive information to Iranian intelligence. He disclosed highly confidential information, which he had access to by virtue of his profession, affecting the national security of Saudi Arabia. Seven others were jailed for the same charges.  This was their first trial judgment on the grounds of cooperation with Iranian intelligence and suspicious employees at the Iranian Embassy, Al-Ekhbariya reported. Evidence against the defendant sentenced to death proved that he provided an Iranian agent with sensitive information.  He also sent details about two foreign embassies in the Kingdom, including their exits, entrances and security presence. The other seven defendants received varying terms of imprisonment that reached 58 years in total. This is due to their cooperation with suspicious persons working in the Iranian Embassy, and providing some of them with information that affects Saudi Arabia’s economy and internal affairs. They received financial rewards for their work. Defendants have the right to request an appeal within 30 days from the date of receipt of the judgment. The public trial was attended by the public prosecutor, the defendants, and their attorneys and relatives, as well as representatives of the Human Rights Commission.
