RIYADH – The Border Guard foiled attempts to smuggle a total of 8,275 kg of hashish, 529.7 ton of qat, and 289,966 narcotic tablets in six months, ending Feb. 24. Saudi Press Agency quoted the spokesman of the General Directorate of Border Guard as stating on Saturday, that smuggling attempts were foiled due to continuous monitoring of the land and sea borders of the Kingdom. During this period, the Border Guard rescued people who went missing on the land and out in the sea. The Border Guard have arrested 3,794 people involved in smuggling. They were kept under surveillance after they crossed the borders into Saudi territories. Both the violators and the drugs seized from them were handed over to the pertinent authorities for further measures. The Border Guard search and rescue teams and marine and land patrols have rescued a total of 479 people of different ages and nationalities. Of these, 369 were rescued out in the sea and 110 on land.
