Qatar sends medical aid to Iran

DUBAI — Qatar hassent emergency medical aid to Iran amid the coronavirus outbreak, Qatar News Agency reported Sunday. The first batch of aid contains six ton of medical equipment and supplies, according to the agency. Iran reported over 700 deaths amid 14,000 infections, as of Saturday. Qatar itself reported 17 new coronavirus cases on Saturday, taking the total infections to 337, according to the health ministry. The new cases had contacted with expatriate workers, who are currently quarantined, the ministry said in a statement cited by the official QNA news agency. In light of the growing number of infected persons, Qatar has taken precautionary measures to safeguard the health and wellbeing of the public including closing cinemas, theaters, children’s play areas, gyms and wedding venues. These measures came into effect March 13, and will remain in place until further notice. — Al Arabiya English
