RIYADH: Riyadh municipality has started to disinfect markets and supermarkets in an effort to ensure the safety of shoppers during the coronavirus pandemic. This latest precaution complements the work being carried out by government agencies to limit the spread of the disease. In addition, hand sanitizers have been provided for customers to use, and workers have been supplied with thermometers to help them identify any sign of a fever, which is a common symptom of the virus. Signs and posters are also in place to raise awareness of the directives issued by the authorities and the steps that can be taken to reduce the risk of infection, including the proper way to wash and sterilize hands. The municipality has also intensified its efforts to monitor establishments to ensure they are adhering to precautionary closures. Officials have so far made 7,793 supervisory visits, imposing maximum penalties on those found to be violating the rules and referring them to government agencies for further deterrent measures. Officials previously announced that the production of sterilizers has been stepped up, and they will be distributed for free at more than 25 locations in the city. They said they are also coordinating with charities to ensure supplies of disinfectants reach vulnerable people who are particularly at risk from the virus.
