Aden, Riyadh Meetings Held to Prevent Coronavirus from Spreading in Yemen

Yemen’s Health Minister Dr. Nasser Baoum discussed with representatives from the King Salman Center for Relief and Humanitarian Work (KSRelief), in the presence of the World Health Organization (WHO) representative in the Gulf region, the provision of healthcare products to Yemen. According to the official Saba News Agency, Baoum discussed with KSRelief in Riyadh the possibility of providing healthcare equipment necessary to face the new coronavirus. He also talked over an executive project proposal with the WHO to secure epidemiological surveillance devices, support laboratories, quarantines and training for Yemeni medical cadres. Baoum praised Saudi Arabia for its aid work in Yemen. On Friday, the Yemeni Health Ministry called on all doctors, technicians, preventive quarantine experts and medical school students to volunteer and support the ministry in its preparations to confront the coronavirus. It urged volunteers to head to the ministry’s offices in all governorates so they can coordinate their involvement in efforts to combat the pandemic. Health Ministry Undersecretary Dr. Ali Al-Walidi, alongside concerned officials, reviewed the state of readiness of medical laboratories in Aden and other governorates, the availability of qualified medical staff, practical steps taken to start operating and managing health quarantines in Aden and the consideration of opening isolation centers in public and private hospitals. Al-Walidi’s meeting with health officials also focused on launching an awareness campaign about the coronavirus. He called for drafting optimal plans, defining tasks, distributing competencies and working with the WHO as an essential and supportive partner in various health plans.
