The Saudi cabinet stressed on Tuesday the need for all citizens and residents to seriously commit to preventive measures and guidelines to curb the coronavirus outbreak. Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman bin Abdulaziz chaired a cabinet meeting through video-conference. He briefed ministers on the joint telephone call he held with US President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin to discuss efforts to preserve the stability of the oil market and boost the growth of the global economy. They underlined the importance of cooperation between oil-producing countries and the contributions of others, expressing their satisfaction with the oil deal that was reached during the OPEC+ meeting that was hosted by Saudi Arabia. The cabinet hailed the talks King Salman and Deputy Prime Minister Mohammed bin Salman, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defense, held with the heads of state of friendly nations to discuss oil market stability. The cabinet also tackled the extraordinary meeting of G20 economy ministers that tackled the global energy market amid the impact of the coronavirus pandemic and the ensuing international economic crisis. Saudi Energy Minister Prince Abdel Abdulaziz bin Salman told Friday’s meeting that ensuring affordable energy supply is key to facilitating a global economic recovery. The ministers also discussed the precautions Saudi Arabia is taking to fight the coronavirus. They highlighted the authorities’ implementation of the Kingdom’s leadership’s orders that are aimed at protecting citizens inside the country and abroad. Moreover, they hailed ongoing efforts to repatriate Saudis, who have been stranded abroad due to the pandemic. On the latest international and regional developments, the cabinet hailed the Saudi-led Arab coalition’s announcement last week of a nationwide two-week ceasefire in Yemen in wake of the coronavirus outbreak and efforts to curb its spread. It hoped that the ceasefire would provide the necessary conditions for the United Nations’ call for reaching a permanent ceasefire and pave the way for political consultations between the warring Yemeni parties.
