Egypt nighttime curfew to be extended during Ramadan

DUBAI: Egypt’s nighttime curfew will possibly be extended during Ramadan as part of the country’s efforts to contain the coronavirus spread, local daily Al-Ahram reported, citing cabinet spokesman Nader Saad. The country’s curfew, which was in effect on March 25, starts from 8p.m. to 6a.m.. Egypt’s government has taken precautionary measures to control the coronavirus spread during the month of Ramadan including the closure of mosques. Saad also said that all cafes, cinemas, theatres will remain suspended throughout the month, adding that Ramadan tents, where people gather to eat their daily iftar or sohour meals, will be closed. Saad said that the committee managing the coronavirus crisis will set the curfew hours for Ramadan at a later date. Egypt’s health ministry has reported on Thursday 168 new coronavirus cases, raising the total number of infected people to 2,673. It also confirmed that 13 people died, which brings the total number of fatalities to 196. The ministry also said that that total number of recovered people from the virus has reached 596.
