UAE reports 546 new coronavirus cases, 11 more deaths

ABU DHABI — The United Arab Emirates on Wednesday announced 546 new coronavirus cases, 206 recoveries and 11 more deaths, state news agency WAM reported quoting a statement from the country’s Ministry of Health and Prevention. During the regular media briefing on Wednesday here, Dr. Amna Al Dahak Al Shamsi, official spokesperson of the UAE Government, said noting that health authorities performed 25,573 additional tests that identified 546 new infections among various nationalities, with the total number of cases reaching 15,738, including those receiving treatment, recovered cases, and deaths. She also said that 11 more individuals of different nationalities died during the last 24 hours, bringing the total number of deaths in the country to 157. The deceased were suffering from chronic diseases that caused complications and led to their death, Dr Amna added. Underlining the importance and significant of social distancing, the spokesperson said that 30 of the newly detected cases are from two families. The cases were detected in families which broke social distancing and held a family gathering that got them infected. The cases include a two-month-old infant and a number of elderly people. "Our commitment should be in the form of actions rather than words. We should protect our loved ones, our fathers, mothers, and senior citizens, who are more vulnerable to infection than others," she added.
