JEDDAH — The International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC) in the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) member states called for marking May 9, 2020, (Saturday) as the Humanitarian International Law Day, following a series of events to confront novel coronavirus pandemic all over the world. The committee recalled the passing of 1430 years, according to the Hijri calendar, of the anniversary of issuance of the immortal humanitarian recommendation made by the First Caliph Abu Bakr. The recommendation was made on Saturday the 9th, 633, to Usama Bin Zaid, when the former sent the latter to what is Syria toady, as a commander of the army in line with a will made by the Prophet (pbuh). Among the articles of the recommendation are 10 commandments: Not to betray, not to exaggerate, not to take from back, not to mutilate, neither to kill a child nor an aged man, a woman, neither to uproot a palm tree nor to set it afire, not to cut down a fruitful tree, not to kill a sheep, a cattle or a camel, except for eating, and that you may come across groups of people who have resigned themselves to silos of worship, so let them lead themselves and that you may also pass by some people who would bring you dishes full of various foodstuff, if you are to eat an item following the other, invoke the Name of Allah upon them. Such a recommendation and its articles have put forward an unprecedented humanitarian system and mode during wartime, in order to preserve mankind and environment, henceforth, it was not surprising or unusual that Geneva conventions and other relating further appendices protocols have included, mentioned or cited parts of them. — SPA
