RIYADH — Saudi Arabia"s Ministry of Justice has said the labor courts and circuits have settled 3,825 cases in Dhul Qi"dah (June 22-July 21). The ministry said the 42 percent of the cases involved disputes over wages. The courts, on an average, settled 174 cases per day, the ministry said. Makkah courts topped the list with 1,126 verdicts, followed by Riyadh with 969. Courts in the Eastern Province settled 953 cases, Madinah had 335, and Asir with 131 verdicts. The Qassim Region courts came in sixth place with 93 verdicts, followed by Al-Jouf with 66, Najran with 45, Al-Baha with 25, Hail with 23, the Northern Borders Region and Jazan with 22 each, and Tabuk with 15 verdicts, the lowest of all regions recorded during the same period. The labor courts have the jurisdiction to hear cases related to work, and include disputes on work contracts, wages and rights, work injuries and their compensation, as well as disputes related to the employer"s imposition of disciplinary penalties on the worker or cases related to the application for exemption from them, as well as the lawsuits filed to inflict penalties stipulated in the work system , in addition to the disputes arising from the application of the labor system and the social insurance system.
