KUWAIT CITY — Authorities here have arrested two security officers working in sensitive positions on charges of treason. The officers are alleged to have leaked confidential documents and collaborated with foreign parties to undermine Kuwait’s national security, Al-Qabas daily newspaper said on Monday. It quoted a security source as saying that the authorities thwarted a dangerous plot targeting the country’s national security through a wide network of prominent figures cooperating with the two officers. “The public prosecutor’s office has open an investigation with the two officers on charges of treason and breach of trust as they had stolen highly confidential documents and conducted secret recordings related to Kuwait’s national security in 2019. The officers leaked the documents and recordings outside the country,” source added. The newspaper said the two officers were working within a wide network of military personnel, members of parliament and influential figures. Kuwaiti authorities also monitored direct contacts between them and parties in London. The details of the plot have not been disclosed. — Agencies
